Starring: Don Cheadle, Said Taghmaoui, Guy Pearce, Neal McDonough, Jeff Daniels
Directed by: Jeffrey Nachmanoff
The Plot: Don Cheadle plays Samir Horn: devout Muslim, former US Army Special Forces and now, seemingly a supplier of explosives to Islamic terrorists.
Horn is arrested by Yemeni armed forces who, accompanied by FBI agents Roy Clayton (Guy Pearce) and Max Archer (Neal McDonough) raid a terrorist compound. Also captured is the chess-playing, Western-educated Arab ringleader Omar (Saïd Taghmaoui) who initially believes that Horn betrayed him and his men, but later comes to trust him with his life.
When Horn, Omar and a bunch of other terrorists escape from the Yemeni prison and the American consulate in Nice is bombed, the FBI believes that Horn is working for the bad guys. As it becomes apparent that the US will be rocked by a string of terror attacks on Thanksgiving Day finding Horn because a priority for Cayton and Archer.
My Review: Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Day After Tomorrow) Traitor is an interesting, well told story of a character you'd don't see too often in American movies - the Muslim hero. The plot succeeds in keeping the movie's audience engrossed even if it does plod along rather slowly towards the middle. A talented cast, smart script (co-written by Steve Martin) and excellent musical soundtrack all combine to make this a very watchable movie.
My rating: 4/5
